Community Night

Updated: Sep 26

Here's what's going on with Community Night as Rose Valley Friends Church

What is Community Night?

The pandemic caused many to feel acute loneliness and isolation, and we definitely felt it. As we emerge from the pandemic, we wanted to create a meaningful, organic way to reconnect, get involved in each other's lives again, to study God's word and spiritually grow together.

So we started Community Night.

This weekly event is for all ages! It's time to spend together over a FREE* meal at 6pm provided by a team of volunteers (see more below).

*You are not required to give. However, a freewill donation to help cover the cost is greatly appreciated!

Following dinner (6:45-8pm), join us for one of four small group options:

More about the small group options

1. The Message and Miracles of Jesus

Led by Pastor Robert Hays

Pastor Robert will be teaching a small group Bible study on the messages and the miracles of Jesus. Did Jesus REALLY say that if someone slaps us on the right cheek, we are to offer them the left? Did Jesus REALLY calm the winds and the waves of a violent storm by just saying the words, “Peace, be still”? From the Sermon on the Mount to raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus said and did things that could only be called AMAZING. This class will take a deeper look into the message and the miracles of the most interesting man who ever walked the face of the earth.

2. Praying the Prayers of Paul

Led by Brian Schlaelfi

Scripture encourages us to pray. To “pray about everything”, to “pray without ceasing”, etc. However, many of us feel inadequate or ineffective when it comes to the discipline of prayer. Perhaps we might even get bored and lose interest in praying. This Community Night study will be of some of Paul’s prayers from his New Testament epistles. We will use these as examples of using Scripture to pray for ourselves and for others. And we will take time during our discussion time to do exactly that in groups of three or four people.

3. Jr. High Youth Group

Led by Pastor Nathaniel Vanderploeg

Come join us for fun games, an interactive lesson on the ABC's of Christianity, and snacks!

For students 6th-8th grade.
